Most of us ladies know how important hydration is to our general health and wellness. Since our bodies are made of approximately 60% water, we need to make sure we’re constantly replenishing the moisture we lose throughout the day. But did you know, plain water is actually the least hydrating liquid we can drink? In order for water to be hydrating, there needs to be something mixed in it to "charge" the water molecules. Water is more hydrating if we add things like salt, lemon juice, electrolytes, etc. or Mixhers products!

But even though most of us understand that proper hydration is essential, 75% of us are still chronically dehydrated! That means three out of four Americans are dehydrated right now. Could you be one of them without even knowing it? Here are a few things you should know about dehydration, why it happens, and what you can do to stay hydrated throughout the day.

What Is Dehydration?

Dehydration happens when there’s a deficit of water in the body (which means you’re losing or using more fluid than you’re consuming). Once the body no longer has sufficient fluids to carry out its various bodily functions, it is already in a state of dehydration.

Anyone can become dehydrated at any age, but the condition tends to be more dangerous for older adults and young children. Dehydration can range from mild to severe, depending on how low the body’s fluid levels get.

Could You Be Dehydrated Right Now?

Most people don’t think they’re dehydrated, but when you consider the fact that 75% of adults are chronically dehydrated, there’s a good chance you’re one of them. So how can you tell for sure? Review the following list of dehydration symptoms and mark any that apply to you.

Mild Dehydration Symptoms

  • Dark yellow pee

  • Infrequent urination

  • Excessive thirst

  • Muscle cramps

  • Cool, dry skin

  • Headache

  • Sticky or dry mouth

Severe Dehydration Symptoms

  • Rapid heartbeat

  • Dizziness

  • Absence of urination, or very dark and smelly pee

  • Rapid breathing

  • Very dry skin

  • Confusion or irritability

  • Grogginess

  • Sunken eyes

  • Fatigue

  • Fainting

If you can relate to any of these symptoms, stop reading this and get a big glass of water right away, girl! For severe dehydration, prompt medical intervention may be necessary. Common causes of dehydration include forgetting to drink throughout the day, excessive sweating, and illness (such as diarrhea, vomiting, or fever).

How To Stay Hydrated

It’s really easy to lose track of how much water you consume when you’re busy. Since most of us ladies balance a lot of responsibilities and manage crazy schedules, we tend to forget about our body’s hydration needs. So here are a few tips for staying hydrated every day.

  • Drink a glass of water as soon as you wake up in the morning

  • Carry a water bottle around with you throughout the day

  • Eat foods that are high in water content (such as watermelon, cucumbers, spinach, and peaches)

  • Set an alarm on your phone that reminds you to drink water every hour

  • Make it a habit to take a drink of water before every snack and meal

  • Take hydrating supplements to help you maintain optimal fluid levels in your body

To hydrate your body more quickly and replenish electrolytes lost through your sweat, saliva, or urine, consider taking Herhydration. It’s a natural hydration product that contains refreshing green coconut water as well as five key electrolytes: calcium, sodium, magnesium, potassium, and phosphorous. These electrolytes are lost through sweat and urine, so it’s important to replenish them if you become dehydrated.

One of the most important electrolytes for rehydration is potassium. Unfortunately, most of us don’t get enough potassium in our diets every day, which may be one reason we’re so prone to dehydration. Green coconut water contains more potassium than you can find in a banana or 15 sports drinks!

Herhydration is like Mother Nature’s perfect sports drink. But unlike most sports drinks on the market, you won’t find any artificial flavoring, artificial coloring, or chemicals in Herhydration. It also has zero added sugar and is lower in acidity than other sports drinks. Keep a packet with you at all times so you always have a way to hydrate your body when you’re feeling parched.
